Pool Table FAQ
Pool Table Sizes
What is the standard pool table size?
- The typical pool table sizes ranges from 6ft - 9ft in length. The 8ft and 9ft - are recognised for tournament play by the governing bodies, while the 7ft is the most popular size for homes and dining pool tables.
- Check out our articles on choosing the right pool table size for your space.
How much space do I need for a pool table?
- While we have a detailed room size guide, the quick answer is to simply add 5ft to the perimeter dimensions of your desired table (assuming you're using a standard 57" cue). As an example, a 8ft x 4ft table will require a 18ft x 14ft space.
Are Playing and Dining heights the same for Dining Pool Tables?
- Most 2-in-1 pool tables have a playing height that's slightly adjusted downwards for dining but still well within play limits.
- Some pool tables come with legs with height adjusters for easy adjustment to your desired height, as well as mechanisms that switch between 2 heights for dine or play.
- Another workaround is to opt for accompanying benches or higher chairs.
Pool Tables Types
What's the Difference between American and British Pool Tables?
- American pool tables are typically larger, with a 9ft length compared to 7ft for British pool tables. American pool ball sizes are bigger at 2"1/4 (vs 2").
- While both games feature 16 balls including cue and black balls, American Pool balls are coloured stripes and solids versus British pool's Yellow and Red balls.
- American pool tables have rounded corners, use worsted 'speed' cloth compared to the square-shaped pockets for British pool.
American pool tables are also the most common type around the world, and the type you'd probably encounter in world tournaments or any pool hall. At Centrum Leisure, we focus on American Pool tables.
Pool Table Material and Finishes
Should I choose a slate or wood (MDF) playing surface?
Specific to the playing surface, majority of our pool tables are slate-bed tables that offer the best roll and durability.
We also offer highly durable wood-bed pool tables that are portable, as well as composite material that offer water-resistant properties for outdoor play.
How can I customise my pool table?
It depends on the type of customisation you're looking at, and the table. Examples of customisable components include:
- Size
- Finishing
- Cloth colour
- Optional table top
- Dining benches
Most customisations are typically within a prescribed range that will suit a majority of modern interiors. However, if you have anything fancy in mind, simply hit us up with your idea and we may just have a unique design for you.
